Nasser al-Attiyah in his Hilux Toyota cruised to his third Dakar Rally title with a 46-minute cushion over the second-placed Nani Roma in the end of the world’s toughest rally, which was held in Peru.

He was an Olympic medallist in shooting at the 2012 London Games, but this year al-Attiyah, in his Toyota, cruised in the 10th and final stage from Pisco to Peruvian capital, crossing the line 12th behind Carlos Sainz but that still saved him enough time to claim himself the final winner in overall rankings.

France's previous nine-time world rally champion Sebastien Loeb took third in the overall standings, two hours behind the Qatari whose previous wins also came in 2011 and 2015.
